In only its first year, Christian Brothers University’s Healthcare Master of Business Administration (HCMBA) has been named one of the Top 20 Graduate Programs in Healthcare Management in the South in 2016 by Healthcare Management Degree Guide.

The publication cited the program’s “flexibility for students’ schedules, the entirety of [who are] working adults, and commitment to ‘more in-depth learning, concentration, and application of each business discipline.’ This acknowledgement adds to CBU’s list as US News and World Report’s number 27 Best Southern Regional University and number 9 Best Value School.

“We are absolutely thrilled about the recognition, especially considering the HCMBA program officially launched in January” said Daisy Laird, Assistant Director of CBU’s Graduate Business Programs. While the university has offered a traditional MBA program since 1989, Laird said the HCMBA program was added this year to meet the needs of working healthcare professionals in Memphis.

“There was a void of graduate business programs in Memphis that taught to the unique issues of healthcare management,” said Laird, “so we designed a unique program for healthcare professionals who wanted the skills needed for upper management roles within the healthcare industry.”

Meeting only one night a week, HCMBA students take one 8-week course at a time, with 12 weeks of breaks built into each calendar year. Students complete the entire program with the same classmates, known as their cohort.

The HCMBA program utilizes majority adjunct instructors who work in the field that they teach, including managers from Methodist, Le Bonheur, My Health Choice, FedEx, St. Francis, and Medtronic.

CBU is currently accepting applications for their next HCMBA cohort, which will begin in January 2017. To learn more about the application process and requirements, visit cbu.edu/hcmba.
