The American Cancer Society has named Maria Robinson senior manager for the Society’s Harrah’s Hope Lodge in Memphis. Robinson will oversee the lodge’s day-to-day operations, including guest services, volunteer engagement and community involvement.
Harrah’s Hope Lodge, located next to Sun Studio on Union Avenue, opened in 2010 and provides a free home-away-from-home for people traveling to Memphis for cancer treatment. Last year, Harrah’s Hope Lodge provided 8,232 nights of free lodging to 1,191 patients and caregivers, saving them about $1.2 million in lodging costs.
Robinson, an eight-year cancer survivor, joined the Society in 2012 as community manager for Relay For Life. While in this role, she raised over $2 million through community and corporate fundraising efforts. In addition to fundraising, Robinson recruited, cultivated and managed relationships with hundreds of volunteers.
Robinson received her Bachelors of Science degree in education from the University of Memphis.
