As part of reorganization at Hamilton Eye Institute (HEI) at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), James C. Fleming, MD, FACS, now is the director of HEI, and Brad Canada, MD, and Polly Hofmann, PhD, will serve as interim co-chairs of the UTHSC Department of Ophthalmology.
Fleming, the Philip M. Lewis Professor of Ophthalmology, has been the chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and director of the HEI Orbit Center. He now assumes the position held by Barrett G. Haik, MD, who died last summer.
Fleming, who earned his medical degree at UTHSC, was recruited by Haik to join HEI in 1997.
Canada is an associate professor of nephrology at UTHSC and chief medical officer for University Clinical Health. He earned his medical degree at UTHSC with highest honors.
Hofmann is senior executive associate dean in the College of Medicine at UTHSC and professor in the Department of Physiology. She earned a BS in biology at the University of Illinois and a PhD at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine, Department of Physiology,
